✨ About Writing Alchemy
Some readers finish a story and move on (totally fair). Others find themselves not quite finished with a story after the end. They’re analysts and explorers, diverted by characters, distracted by tropes and themes. If you’re want more than just a story, you’re in the right place.
Writing Alchemy explores the magic and meaning inside the stories we love across books, TV, and film. This is a place for people who suspect that what moves them in a novel isn’t random, and what to discover how that the same shape appears across centuries and mediums for a reason.
The recipe is two tablespoons literary observatory, a cup narrative field guide, and a dash of cozy conversation between people who believe stories shape us.
What You’ll Find Here
Every two weeks, I publish an essay, not a review or writing advice. Something closer to a great conversation after a movie, or a book club discussion that’s fun whether you read the book or not.
The range is wide: fantasy, science fiction, literary fiction, film, television. The topics vary. You might find
Deep dives into character agency, tropes, and the structures beneath the stories we love.
Cross‑media analysis because the same story told in a novel and a film isn't always the same story, and the differences can be fascination.
Occasional behind‑the‑scenes glimpses into my own fiction
Character studies, theme essays, curated recommendations for clean and wonder-filled fiction.
All content is free and open access. The supporter tier simply keeps this space ad‑free and glowing.
Alongside the main essays, I’m active on Notes sharing shorter sparks, micro-essays, recommendations, and threads for readers who want the ongoing conversation between articles.
About the Author
I’m Annie… an occasional English professor, speculative fiction author, and collector of out-of-context quotes. I’ve spent most of my life reading, writing, tracing deep patterns inside the stories we love. My work lives at the intersection of myth, meaning, and narrative design, and I’m endlessly fascinated stories of all shapes across books, shows, and films.
Think of me as your guide, someone who notices threads, follows them across mediums, and articulates them in a way that feels clear, warm, and a little bit magical.
I also share my home (and many drafting sessions) with Kira, who contributes absolutely nothing to the analysis but a great deal to the atmosphere.
If you’re curious about my books, you can explore them anytime at anniejacksonbooks.com.
